This course introduces students to the basics of the Castilian language which is the standard version of Spanish. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required. Essential features of phonetics and intonation will be explained and demonstrated. Class and home work will focus on basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The overall aim of the course will be achieved mainly through intensive oral and written practice. Audio-visual aids will be used to enhance the learning process. Particular attention will be given to the cultural aspect including fundamental information on Spain and its feasts.
